NRL Round 19 Betting: Gold Coast Titans Vs North Queensland Cowboys – Saturday 22nd of July 2011
The first of 3 Saturday night fixtures will see the bottom dwelling Titans facing the Cowboys who have a couple of wins between themselves and the 6th placed Warriors, but they will do well to hang on to this over the next few weeks with Thursto still looking at a Round 24 return. The Titans suffered yet another defeat last week, the most recent being against the big brother Broncos, 30-10. The Cowboys lost by the same margin to a lesser team, with the Tigers getting up 38-18. To add to the Cowboys loss it was at home, so if this is any indication they are in for a hard win here.
These two are actually on opposite ends of the table compared to this time last year. The Titans were having another consistent season whereas the Cowboys were clutching at straws all year long, finishing on just 5 wins for the year.
These two met earlier in the year and it was the Cowboys that got up in front of a home crowd by 22 to 12. Before that was Skilled Park in round 23 of 2010, Titans winning 37-18. Something needs to change at Titans camp, it’s too late to consider the finals in 2011 but they can still lay a good foundation for 2012.
I have been saying week in week out that the Titans are lost without Nathan Friend hooking for the club. The little guy is the biggest on the team when it comes to heart, effort and impact. The injury was not meant to last this long and he has recently been updated as out for the season.
QLD rep Ashley Harrison is also watching from the sidelines as he rests an elbow injury. Not to mention future rep player Ryan James who is also out for the season.
The Titans still have a lot of their playing roster available, and with Thurston out there is no reason to blame injuries if they lose.
Prince is at his best when his opposition is weakened. He only plays well when he is confident, and without Thurston and possibly Matt Scott his confidence will be beaming.
The Cowboys have managed to maintain a good record this year, but they now face adversity with a month of football left before Thurston hits the field. Big prop Matt Scott (Co-Captain) has also been out with a back injury but recent scans have revealed no major damage so he should be right to play. If he doesn’t you can kiss this one good by Cowboys fan.
I mentioned that these 2 teams both lost by the same margin, and that the Cowboys lost to lesser opposition. The Titans actually played well enough in the first half against the Broncos to keep the scores level. The Cowboys were blown away by some Benji magic, so if the same is to happen this week it’s up to Prince to have a Benji like performance.
Well we all know that Prince is no Thurston, in fact he is a long way off, especially this year. But If Prince can play good enough it will get the Titans over the line. The Titans are going to scrape through here with a 1-12 victory.
