NRL Round 17 Betting: Parramatta Eels Vs Brisbane Broncos – Friday 1st of July 2011
The last of the Origin series is played in less than a week, meaning that these 2 teams are missing their best players. For the Eels it is only Hayne and Mannah that will be watching from the sideline or telly, the Broncos have a few more which will mean they lose a lot more than the Eels. It is Lockyer’s last game for QLD, and with him are Thaiday, Yow Yeh, Hodges and Hennant. That’s a lot of good personnel to be without, and to make matters worse they are travelling down to Parra Stadium to play in front of the Eels home crowd.
The Eels continued their poor away form in 2011 with their 6th loss in a row on the road. The most recent was against the Canberra Raiders, in a 25-12 loss. The Broncos travelled across the deserts to play the Rabbitohs in WA, and what the hell happened there. It was a cross between Rugby League and Water Polo at NIB stadium after torrential rains hit the area earlier in the day. Without the drainage facilities of regular rugby league stadiums there were gigantic puddles all over the place. The Bronco’s don’t’ play too well in the wet, and they were unable to capitalise on a few good opportunities and went down by 2 points.

The Eels are traveling so poorly, not only in regards to their season tally but quite literally when playing away. This week is a god send as they will enjoy a home ground advantage. They Drew their last home game against the Dragons and win the previous against the Sharks 40-6. Before that were the Titans, another win. In fact the last time they lost at home was way back in Round 6 against an in form Bulldogs. So the home ground advantage seems to really play a part for this team.
Without Hayne they lose a hell of a lot as he has started to play some good footy. His kicking game is probably the biggest in the competition as he seems to be able to kick 60m+ on the full at will. When used effectively it can control field position and leads to a good chance of winning. Without him kicking they have to rely on their half and 5/8 like most other clubs. This week they have Casey McGuire slotting in a 5/8 and it will be interesting to see what he brings in this department.
The Broncos traditionally lose when without their Origin stars. To add to this they also have a notable injury list. The last time they had an injury list like this they pulled off a miraculous win against the Raiders in golden point at Suncorp. The Raiders played poorly for the whole game except the last 15 minutes though. This week they are up against some slightly better opposition and are not at Suncorp, they are in Sydney.
So with this comparison I would have to say the Broncos will need to play a lot better than they did against the Raiders. On the same token the Eels will still have to play better than the Raiders.
It would take a few brain explosions for the Eels to lose this one. The Eels have had such an impressive home record for the last 9 weeks and will need to maintain this to make it to September Footy. Eels to win 13+
The Eels are paying well at the bookies with $1.65 being the payout for a H2H win. Get on the -3.5 line to get the odds up top $1.92 as this is a sure thing for an Eels win. 13+ is paying a standard $3.30
