NRL Round 23 Betting: Penrith Panthers Vs Wests Tigers – Friday 12th of August 2011
The Panthers and Tigers have both had their good patches in 2011. The Panthers finished their good patch a few weeks ago and have not done much since. The Tigers seem to be right in the middle of theirs as they start to get a good roll on in to the finals. Can they continue this or is it coming to an end? Tiger’s fans will hope that it continues as they look like an unstoppable force at the moment.
The battle of the big cats will be hosted by the Panthers at Centrebet Stadium, a field where the Blue Mountain Boys have managed a total record of 8-2 against the Tigers. So it is up to the Tigers to turn the tides on the Panthers at their home ground.
The Black Cats have turned white over the last 4 weeks, winning just 1 and finishing the last month on a points differential of -35. In fact the Panthers only win was a 1 point Golden Point victory over the Eels, a golden point that never should have happened. So over the last 4 weeks the Panthers have really had no form to speak of. Hell, wind the clock back 5 weeks and they lost against the ROOSTERS!
So what has gone wrong at camp Penrith? Well they have not had the biggest of injury lists in the comp, but the players that have been injured have been out for a long time now. Not only that, the players that are missing are essential to the Panther’s success. I’m talking about Coote, Gordon and Tahu. There have been some other short stints by other players over the season as well.
The Tigers have won 4 in a row and are aiming up at the Panthers for their fifth. I tell you what; they have gone up the road less travelled over these 4 with some very good wins. Not only did they manage to snap a 4 match losing streak to the Roosters, they also topped off the Cowboys and Eagles, and of course last week’s memorable win over the Dragons.
The win over the Dragons last week will give them more confidence than any of the other previous matches as the Dragons had a lot to play for, pretty much their whole season. This made it 3 losses in a row for the Dragons, and the most recent against the Tigers was a match that they put everything into, only to come up short.
So the Tigers come into this one with a belly full of confidence, however young Lawrence has gone and done himself a mischief by injuring his hammy last week. Could this be the straw that breaks the Camel’s back?
With or without Lawrence the Tigers are a tight unit. The same cannot be said for the Panthers who have been underwhelming over the last 5 weeks. The Tigers have scored more, had less against and are higher up on the ladder. The Panthers have a better point’s differential away from home, so this state works against them. Despite losing 4 of the last 5 the Panthers have managed to keep it within 1-12 every week except against the Storm. Tigers 1-12.
