NRL Round 16 Betting: St George Dragons Vs Manly Sea Eagles – Monday 27th of June 2011
To wrap up round 16 we are heading down to WIN stadium where the Dragons will have a real litmus test against the form team at the moment, the Manly Sea Eagles. This is the game of the season as number 3 team take on number 2. The Dragons are in a rut at the moment with only 1 win from their last 4, on the other hand the Eagles are flying high with 6 wins in a row and 9 from their last 10.
The Dragons do have the home ground advantage with 3 of the 4 games played against the Eels at WIN Jubilee going the way of the Red V. This includes 2 matches last year, the first being round 23 in a 32-10 shellacking, the second win saw the Eagles out of the competition in week 1 of the finals with 28-0 smashing.
This match could not come at a worse time for the Dragons. They are in shambles at the moment and will need start improving if their side is any chance of taking the minor premiership in 2011. Bennett can blame it on origin all he likes, but he needs to have a look at some of the other teams in the competition. The Tigers have managed to win more games than they should have with a massive injury list. The Raiders also won this weekend without all their super stars and a lot of their consistent players. The Storm also lose their best for Origin but have still travelled well. Every team is short on first graders at some time in the season, and if they’re not then it’s a dream season.
So the Dragons are really only missing Beau Scott and Cooper for this one. Apart from that they have a full strength side. So if they lose tonight I don’t want to hear any excuses from Bennett’s mouth.
The Eagles have been my favourite NRL team in 2011, I like many others have been tipping them every week for almost the whole season. This has paid off well. There are a couple of things that have worked very well at Eagles camp and it has developed over the last couple of years.
Firstly, they have spent a lot of their salary cap on players that are not in key roles, and have managed to develop good young players where they are needed. Matt Ballin, Kieran Foran and Daly Cherry-Evans are all playing very good footy in their respective positions of hooker, 5/8 and half back. The best part about these 3 is that they don’t cost an arm and a leg. Brett Stewart at Fullback is really starting to hit his straps again. This has allowed them to maintain one of the biggest and strongest teams as a lot of their salary cap goes towards the forwards and centres/ wingers.
The Eagles are taking a lot of forward momentum in this one whilst the Dragons are carrying a lot of backwards momentum. This will be a close one and come down to the wire, but the Eagles have been ever more impressive. Eagles 1-12.
Even with the Dragons in poor form they are still the favourites. So for good value get on the Eagles H2H for $2.20 for 1-12 you are looking at $3.30
