NRL Round 16 Betting: Newcastle Knights Vs Sydney Roosters – Sunday 26th of June 2011
Channel Nine’s Sunday afternoon football has the Knights hosting the Roosters at Ausgrid stadium in Newcastle. The Knights are coming off a close win against the Panthers at the same venue last week and want to get their first back to back wins home for 2011. In fact they have only managed one back to back win all year, and that was against the Raiders and Sharks, two teams that have been amongst the worst in the comp all year.
The Roosters are coming off one of their best weekends of Footy in 2011… they had a Bye and Piggy announced his retirement! It was one of the few occasions they were able to get some competition points in 2011, a massively disappointing turnaround from 2010. This was the Rooster’s second and last bye of 2011, which means they have no more breaks in between here and the rest of the season. They need to get up here to get a good roll into the finals if they are any shot of even making it let alone having an impact.
These two clubs have already met in 2011, it was only 5 weeks ago in round 11 and it was one of the Roosters very few wins in 2011. They were also without Mitchell Pearce and Nate Myles for Origin commitments. Gidley was also out for injury so with these 3 players back the game could be a lot different.
So Matt Elliot has packed his bags earlier than expected and has made way for Assistant Coach Steve Georgallis to prove himself worthy of Panthers coach in 2012. For the last 10 years I have constantly seen new coaches get their first win in their first week of coaching when taking over mid season. Sharks Coach Shane Flanagan was the first to break the mould in a long time and showed that it is possible for a coach to lose his first game, so will it be rocks or diamonds in Georgallis’ first week at the top spot?
Phil Gould seems to have had a massive impact at the club over the last 5 weeks. Luke Lewis spoke out about this on the Footy Show last Thursday; in particular the professionalism of the club seems to have improved tenfold. So With Gould in charge they are 3 from 5 and they need this win to avoid their first back to back with Gould at the club.
The Roosters are currently on the LWLWL…. Pattern and they did this for almost the whole season in 2010 except for the end of the year when they were able to win 6 in a row to get through to the Grand Final. One of the Wins in the current pattern was against the Knights, so they will need to beat them to continue this pattern.
The Roosters are fielding one of their strongest line ups to date, with Perrett and Kenny-Dowall back, as well as Pearce and Minichiello in good form and Aiden Guerra is also starting to fit back into first grade after a lengthy Injury from 2010. Piggy Riddell has also ejected himself from the game; I don’t know why he was even playing because he was averaging about 15 minutes a game, absolute waste of space. The only weakness I can see in their line up is Justin Carney, who I believe must have something to hold Brian Smith ransom too as he should not belong to any first grade side.
I am going against the grain here and am tipping the upset for the Roosters. They have already beaten the Knights and this was with a weaker team. Not only this, a few of their players are also starting to hit some form at the right time in the season. Roosters for their second 1-12 win over the Knights this season.
The Roosters are paying a handsome $2.20 for the H2H in this one. I can’t see the Roosters managing to score a whole bunch of points after only posting 180 total for the season, so the 1-12 is looking good for $3.30
