NRL Round 12 Betting: North QLD Cowboys Vs Sydney Roosters – Saturday 28th of May 2011
The Cowboys are back to their preferred time slot of 7:30 on a Saturday night to host the out of sorts Roosters 2011 side. If you were looking at the ladder you would immediately think this will be a smashing at the hands of the Cowboys as they are the second best at attack (240) whilst the Roosters are the worst (157). However the Roosters will be buoyed by the return of Origin representatives Mitchell Pearce and Nate Myles. They also have Todd Carney playing and the more he plays the better he will get after a poor start both on and off the field in 2011.
The Roosters have a very good record in total against the Cowboys, and they also won the last encounter in Round 26 of 2010 by 18-8. The 3 matches prior to that went to the Cowboys though.
The Cowboys have enjoyed a much better season than predicted as they are currently sitting at equal second on the ladder with 4 other teams by winning 7 in the season so far. They exacted revenge on the Eels in round 10 by stealing the victory in the last 30 minutes of the game by scoring about 30 unanswered points. Their only loss from their last 5 starts was against the Dragons in Round 9, though they could have won that match were it not for the impressive goal line defence of the red and whites.
The difference in 2010 comes down to a consistent halves partner in Ray Thompson as well as a much better forward pack with Matthew Scott leading the way as co-captain. Scott has lead the likes of Gavin Cooper, Dallas Johnson and Scott Bolton to a good season, and he is the best front rower in the world at the moment.
Even though the Roosters won last week they still have a massive amount of improvement needed if they are a chance of having an impact on the competition in 2011. In the course of 80 minutes they can be both brilliant and terrible, which means that the team is lacking direction. Pearce has been their best player, leading from the front, but he can only do so much.
In steps Dally M winner of 2010 Todd Carney. Carney and Pearce were the halves force to be reckoned with in 2010 which is why they were so good and made it to the Grand Final. So they will need to turn on a 2010 like performance to upset the Cowboys in this one.
The Roosters have also been boosted by the return of Back Rower Aiden Guerra. Guerra played a handful of matches at the start of 2010 and was set to give Matt Gillett a run for rookie of the year. Unfortunately he had a season ending injury, and only returned to the game last week. Guerra is a sturdy footballer that has plenty to offer, this was proven in a 40m hit where he broke about 4 tackles only to be stopped by about 3 Knights defenders. All game he had good hit ups and could be a surprising catalyst for the Roosters in 2011.
With the Form the Roosters have been in you would be silly to tip them to win against the Cowboys at home on a Saturday night at 7:30. Dairy Farmers will be packed and I think a lot of them will still be wearing their QLD colours as they look to cheer their heroes to another victory. Cowboys 1-12.
Centrebet are the best with the Cowboys going for $1.54 H2H. I’m a big fan of the 1-12 in this one and this is a cool $2.90 through the same crowd.
