Playboy magazine first hit the high street back in 1953, when Hugh Hefner and a bunch of associates spotted a gap in the market. In a genius move, the very first issue featured Marilyn Monroe and the magazine took off immediately. By the 1970’s the readership had reached an incredible 7 million. While the magazine doesn’t reach those levels today, Playboy has become a multi-media corporation, with a huge global presence, and a popular part of online pokies.
This Bally-designed pokie takes you back to the early days of Playboy. The fun, caricature design features Hugh Hefner, complete with his trademark pipe, surrounded by a collection of bunny girls dancing around him. Here are the standout features of the game:
At first glance, it seems that this pokie plays like any other, with the only difference being the lack of a wild symbol on the reels. However, you’ll notice that occasionally, a series of symbols are encased in an orange overlay block, as the reels spin.
These blocks come in various shapes and sizes, in much the same way as the blocks in the classic game Tetris. The excitement starts when the reels stop with the encased blocks in view. Now any symbols within the block will become wild (showing the word ‘wild’ with a small playboy bunny below).
These added wilds can make a huge difference to a spin. The added blocks of wilds can easily turn a non-winning spin into one where you’ll win across a series of win-lines. The largest blocks of all take up 12 symbols in a 3×4 shape. Land this plum on the reels and you’re looking at big pay outs across many or all of the win-lines.
To enter the free spins bonus feature, you’ll need to land those bonus symbols, where you’ll find a playboy bunny acting as the ‘O’ on the word ‘bonus’. The bonus is a scatter symbol. Land 3, 4 or 5 anywhere on the reels and you’ll win 8, 10 or 20 free spins respectively.
The beauty of the bonus feature is that on every spin, the hot zone will land on the stopped reels. This means added blocks of wilds every time. You are now very likely to gain a win at every spin, with some huge pay outs along the way. The good news is that the free spins can be retriggered at any time too, with the extra gained spins simply added to your existing total.
Playboy Hot Zone features a 5×4 reel configuration and a set number of 40 win-lines. Each spin comes at the cost of the same 40 credits.
The highest paying symbol of all shows Hugh Hefner himself in a silk dressing gown and smoking his pipe flanked by a glamorous pair of playboy bunnies. Other high paying symbols in the game include a dollar sign and a cherry. At the low end of the pay table there are the playing card symbols 10, J, Q, K and A.
Playboy Hot Zone is a fun throwback to the 1950’s when Playboy was in its infancy. Played out on a touch screen 22-inch display, with a smaller screen above, the imagery in the game features caricatures and fun animations.
Hugh Hefner, as the founder and face of Playboy magazine, features heavily throughout, always flanked by the trademark Playboy bunnies. The hot zone feature makes full use of the two screens, adding a nice level of excitement to every spin, while the game is highly colourful throughout. Check out the fun, and at times literally cheeky animation found throughout the game too.
Bally has designed a fun and engaging slot in Playboy Hot Zone. You’ll immediately be taken by the amusing visuals, where Hugh Hefner looks in his element throughout. The game play is certainly interesting too. With those hot zones moving through the reels on every spin, the excitement levels are that much higher than usual, with a mega win possible at any time. Land the free spins feature and you’re virtually guaranteed a large pay out.
