Super Rugby Best Bets: R13 – Get on the Crusaders in Suva

Thu, May 18, 9:25am by Senior Writer

Chiefs v Crusaders, ANZ Stadium, Suva, Friday May 19, 7:35pm AEST

Super Rugby will once again be played in Fiji this season, as the Chiefs take their home game against the Crusaders to Suva. Whilst the venue will be different, the intensity and the passion of this New Zealand derby will be the same. The Crusaders remain unbeaten this season and overcame what is arguably their biggest test against the defending Champions, the Hurricanes last week. A match in which they never really looked like losing. The Crusaders are favourites at $1.67 with William Hill. Meanwhile, the Chiefs themselves have lost only once this season, going down to the Stormers in Cape Town. They could well provide a real threat to the Crusaders’ dominance as they themselves look to take top spot in the New Zealand Conference. They stand at $2.20 to get the better of the Crusaders.

Bet of the Match: Crusaders to Win by 1-12 points at $2.85

Stormers v Blues, Newlands, Cape Town, Saturday May 20, 3am AEST

Life is extremely tough for the Auckland-based Blues, as they sit bottom of the New Zealand Conference. The Conference system makes achieving a playoff spot for the Blues very difficult but they will be aiming to keep up the pressure on their rivals. They face a tough challenge of playing the Stormers in South Africa though. They have won three straight matches to set up a thrilling finale to the season. William Hill are struggling to separate the two with the Stormers at $1.85 for the victory and the Blues at $1.95. The home side’s confidence has taken a real hit in the last few weeks as they are in the midst of a four-game losing streak. Albeit, three of those were on a tour of New Zealand in which they struggled to match the Kiwi sides. They still, however, sit atop their Conference and with some home-based comforts could well get the better of a New Zealand side at Newlands for a second time this season.

Bet of the Match: Stormers to Win by 1-12 points at $2.85

Kings v Brumbies, Nelson Mandela Bay stadium, Port Elizabeth, Sunday May 21, 3:30am AEST

While the Southern Kings are likely to face the chop from Super Rugby at the end of this season, they are certainly not going down without a fight. In the last three matches, they have defeated the Waratahs in Sydney and then the Rebels and Sharks at home. Next in their sights are the Brumbies who make the trip to Port Elizabeth. The Kings are priced as underdogs with William Hill at $2.45 but that won’t faze them. Despite being priced at $1.55, the Brumbies face a real challenge when they take on the Kings. The home side are high on confidence, whereas they have their last four matches meaning the race for the top of the Australian Conference has been thrown wide open. The Brumbies have plenty of firepower at their disposal in the backs but they must be wary of the threat the Kings pose.

Bet of the Match: Kings to Win by 1-12 points $3.50
