Super Rugby finally has a format for the upcoming seasons as it reverts back to a 15 team competition, although we still don’t know which sides will be axed in South Africa and Australia. With all the off-field issues it’s hard to remember that it’s the action on the field that counts. Round Eight once again serves up some fantastic clashes across the world.
Blues v Hurricanes, Eden Park, Saturday April 15, 5:35pm AEST
The Blues and Hurricanes meet in what is shaping up to be the clash of the round in Auckland. The home side have played some thrilling attacking rugby in recent weeks but as in previous seasons are failing to claim enough victories over their Conference rivals. Last weekend they pushed the Highlanders all the way but even the injection of Sonny Bill Williams couldn’t get them a much needed win. Things don’t get any easier as they face the champions and must overcome a price of $2.50. On the other hand, the Hurricanes finally look like they are finding their groove in this year’s competition. Despite Beauden Barrett’s red card, they were outstanding victors against the Waratahs. They stand at $1.52 to continue their winning run.
Bet of the Match: Hurricanes to Win by 13+ points at $3.10
Rebels v Brumbies, AAMI Park, Saturday April 15, 7:45pm AEST
Despite being in the firing line as a franchise the Rebels must regroup as they host the Brumbies this weekend. They are still searching for their first win of the year after disappointing losses so far. The performances have improved since the start of the season but the outcome hasn’t changed. Fresh from the bye, they will be hoping they can catch the Brumbies off-guard and overturn a price of $3.90. That does seem unlikely with the Brumbies in fine form and priced at $1.25. They head into this fixture after demolishing the Reds in Round Seven with many of their players beginning to really find their form. Their pack has been dominant whilst their backs have looked exceptionally dangerous on the front foot.
Bet of the Match: Brumbies to Win by 1-12 points at $2.70
Bulls v Jaguares, Loftus Versfeld, Sunday April 16, 3:30am AEST
Last weekend saw the Bulls make some unwanted history, as they lost to the Sunwolves in Tokyo. They will return home looking for a huge performance in front of their fans to redeem themselves. Yet they face a tough match-up as they host the Jaguares. The Bulls’ recent form rightly sees them priced at $2.02 with William Hill. The home crowd could play in their favour but they will not be in the highest of spirits after seeing their side defeated by the Japanese newcomers. The Jaguares also head into this fixture on the back of a loss after losing to the Sharks in Durban. Prior to that they had been in fantastic form topping their Conference ahead of the Lions and Sharks. They appear to have overcome second season syndrome and will prove a huge test for the Bulls and are priced at $1.80.
Bet of the Match: Jaguares to Win by 1-12 points at $2.80
