With just 16 players left in running for the 2011 Australians Open Womens Singles, Day 7 of the Australian Open sees the top half of the womens draw on show.
Arguably the strongest half of the draw left in contention, today’s tennis action sees major hopes Wozniacki, Sharapova and Li all take the court in the 4 games of the top half of round 4.
While there is definitely some money to be made betting on the Australian Open Womens Singles final winner betting markets, you shouldn’t ignore the easy money to be made on the head to head and set tennis betting even at this late stage of the tournament.
Day 7 Australian Open betting and odds are quoted from this morning’s Centrebet Australian Open womens tennis singles betting odds.
Australian Open Day 6 Womens Singles Matches
Australian Open Day 7 Womens Singles Tennis Betting Matches To Bet On
Caroline Wozniacki at $1.11 to beat Anastasija Sevastova
Despite Sevastova’s good win over 21st seed Yanina Wickmayer and her round 3 demolition of Vesna Manasieva, this is a bridge too far. Wozniacki is yet to drop a set here in Melbourne this year and there is nothing that suggest she will implode in this game. She leads the head to head stats 1-0, having beaten Sevastova in straight sets last year in a Fed Cup match, and Sevastova has already produced a career best performance reaching the 4th round of a grand slam here. Wozniacki in two.
Na Li at $1.85 to beat Victoria Azarenka
Na Li made the semi finals of this event last year and after a slight stumble in her first round match, has been absolutely devastating smashing Evgeniya Rodina 6-3 6-2 and then bolting in her round 3 match 6-2 6-1 against Barbora Zahlavova Strycova. She is yet to play a seeded player and does face a more formidable opponent here as the 9th seed playing against 8th seeded Victoria Azarenka. Li leads the head to head stats with the pair having met once per year for the past 3 years, all on hard courts, with Li holding the upper hand winning 2 of those encounters. Li comes in to this after losing the Sydney final to Clijsters while Azarenka too was bundled out in the Sydney semi finals by Clijsters, both going down in straight sets. A tough game but Li should prevail in three.
Maria Sharapova at $1.53 to beat Andrea Petkovic
Sharapova had to really fight in her round 3 game against rising star and German Julia Goerges, taking the win in 3 sets after losing the first. The win was all the more meritorious as Sharapova had plenty of opportunities to self destruct but showed a maturity to grind out the win. The pair have only met once before with Sharapova taking the win in straights sets on a hard court in 2010. Petkovic took no benefit from a virtual walkover in her round 3 game when Venus Williams retired after just 1 game, and at this early stage of the year Sharapova gets the nod on the score of match fitness as well. Petkovic did lose the Brisbane final to Kvitova while Sharapova came through a troubled Auckland tournament, getting bundled out in the quarter finals; but Sharapova has looked fit and composed in all three games thus far and she should prove too good despite the short quote. Sharapova in three.
Svetlana Kuznetsova at $1.30 to beat Francesca Schiavone
The only match of the day with a strong historical statistics bias. Kuznetsova and Schiavone have met on a whopping 12 occassions with Kuznetsova emerging victorious on 8 of those and Schiavone winning 4. Importantly 5 of Kuznetsova’s wins have been on hard courts and she was very impressive shunting 11th seed Justine Henin out of the tournament in her round 3 match in straight sets. Schiavone on the other hand has had a very favourable draw and is yet to face a seed, but despite that has been taken to 3 sets in 2 of her 3 matches so far. It took Na Li to eject Kuznetsova from the Sydney tournament in the quarter finals while Schiavone was a first round loser. Schiavone equals her career best Australian Open 4th round appearances in 2006 and 2010 but this is where it will end. Kuznetsova in two.
